Time Capsule Guidelines

Submissions to the Bicentennial Year Time Capsule should offer a snapshot of the GW academic medical enterprise in 2025, ideally highlighting one or more of our strengths and achievements across all four or our Pillars: education, research, clinical care, and population health and health equity. Submissions should be text, images, or videos that are relevant, appropriate, and adhere to format guidelines.

Text submissions should be concise (500 word limit) and provide a snapshot of SMHS in 2025, including its strengths, achievements, and values in areas like education, research, and clinical care.

Ideas/Examples:

  • A first-person narrative from a current SMHS student detailing their daily experiences, including classes, clinical rotations, research involvement, and extracurricular activities.
  • A list of awards, grants, publications, and other notable accomplishments achieved by faculty, staff, and students within a department.
  • A concise overview of the current strategic plan, outlining the mission, vision, values, and key goals of SMHS.
  • A selection of media clips featuring faculty, students, and/or other community members.
  • A personal reflection on the current state of a topic in medicine and health sciences at SMHS.

Image submissions should ideally be in a high-resolution format (JPEG, PNG) and capture a specific aspect of the academic medical enterprise in 2025, such as a student group, a research activity, or a clinical facility.

Ideas/Examples:

  • Photo from the most recent alumni weekend, MD Reunion, or similar
  • Photo from a Bicentennial lecture or event
  • Photo of Match Day, graduation, or similar
  • Picture of Ross Hall, MFA buildings, or clinical sites
  • Photo of research facilities/equipment, research teams or research presentations

Video submissions should be short (under 5 minutes), high-quality MP4 files that offer a glimpse into SMHS in 2025, such as a welcome message to future students, a tour of a research lab, or a recording of a lecture on a cutting-edge topic.

Ideas/Examples

  • A short video featuring current MD or HS students welcoming the future class of 2075 and congratulating them on the 250th anniversary of the school.
  • A brief guided tour of the CLASS Center or anatomy lab
  • A clip of a recent presentation or lecture by faculty
  • A video depicting the Regional Medical Campus in Baltimore, featuring the clinical facilities and current students
  • A tour of a specific research lab at SMHS, showcasing the equipment, ongoing experiments, and research team.
  • A clip from one of the public sessions at the SMHS Staff Retreat

Share Your Video

  • Content that is offensive, discriminatory, or hateful. This includes any material that promotes violence, discrimination, or prejudice against any individual or group based on their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
  • Content that is sexually explicit or suggestive. This includes any material that depicts or describes nudity, sexual acts, or sexually suggestive behavior.
  • Content that is illegal or violates the rights of others. This includes any material that infringes on copyrights, trademarks, or other intellectual property rights, or that violates privacy laws.
  • Content that is irrelevant to the purpose of the time capsule. This includes any material that is not related to SMHS in 2025.
  • Submissions that do not adhere to the format and size guidelines.
